What People Are Saying

“I took the 360 tour and it was amazing, Geraldine was the nicest, i got sick the day of the tour and she arranged a new date for me to feel better and be able to enjoy the whole experience.

The day of the tour, it felt as if I was having the tour with a friend, she explained everything to me from history, art, food, ingredients and culture and we were able to talk and share experiences while seeing delicious oaxacan food.

I had a lot of fun and would recommend this tour to everyone visiting Oaxaca!”

“Even if you’re only in Oaxaca for a day - this is essential! Geraldine is a fantastic guide, and you’ll venture to little hidden food stalls you’d easily miss as a tourist. Don’t eat breakfast beforehand and wear your expandable clothes - you’ll feast! I’d easily do this tour a second (or third) time. It is a Oaxaca must!!”

“I attended Geraldine's Oaxaca street food tour in November with friends when in town for a wedding and it was wonderful! She is knowledgable, easy-going, and clearly passionate about all the great food the city has to offer. Great way to get oriented in town too.”

“My experience with Gordeando Food Tours, guided by the exuberant and knowledgeable Geraldine, was an absolute delight, transporting me through the vibrant culinary landscape of Oaxaca. The tour wasn't just about tasting food; it was an immersive experience that revealed the heart and soul of Oaxaca.
Geraldine's passion for Oaxacan cuisine is truly infectious. She navigated us through bustling markets, tiny taquerias, and hidden food stalls with the confidence and flair of a seasoned local. What sets this tour apart was the stories and histories intertwined with every bite we took, and Geraldine, being a font of knowledge, did a splendid job of sharing these with us.
The range of food we sampled was both diverse and delicious. We started with the iconic tamales, followed by memelas, and ended with mouth-watering tlayudas. No stone was left unturned, from the ubiquitous mole sauces (the complexity of mole negro was a revelation) to local chocolate, and the less-known but equally delightful tejate drink.
Geraldine also introduced us to local food vendors and artisans, showing the human stories behind the food. Her rapport with the vendors added a personal touch, making the experience feel more like a friendly neighborhood stroll than a formal tour.
The tour was well-paced and organized, allowing us ample time to savor our food and surroundings. Geraldine was attentive to the group's needs, accommodating dietary restrictions without diminishing the experience.
In summary, the Gordeando Food Tour is a must-do for anyone visiting Oaxaca. It was a feast for the senses, and I came away with not just a full stomach, but a deeper appreciation of Oaxaca's rich culinary heritage.

“We had the loveliest time with Geraldine on her wonderful food tour. Not only is she incredibly easy to talk to and get along with, but she really knows the good spots to go and the good stuff to eat. We learned so much from our time with her and are very grateful we went on our first day to give ourselves a good lay of the land. Thank you, Geraldine! <3”

“We met Geraldine for our tour, and immensely enjoyed the entire experience!
The food was amazing! The experience was great! It was very relaxed and informal.
Our guide was very informative, and her knowledge was immense. She was able to provide information about the vendors, food, backstory, and all of it surrounding the experience.
I would definitely recommend this tour. Language was not an issue, and Geraldine was able to speak both English and Spanish very fluently. We had a spectacular time!”

“We had an amazing time with Geraldine. Obviously the food was superb, but her knowledge of the city and Mexican culture makes the food tour so much more. Finally, it worth adding that she is very proficient in English, so we did not experience a language barrier (unlike some other tours we did in Mexico). Highly recommended!”

“Excellent experience! We were a group of 12 people ages 8-68, many of whom were in Mexico for the first time and we had a terrific morning. Geraldine’s passion for food and knowledge about the regions history really showed. In addition to explanations about all the uniquely Oaxacan dishes/products we sampled, Geraldine was able to answer our many questions that spanned beyond the food realm. Also worth noting- the tour is just as much a walking tour of the city as it is a food tour. We visited multiple beautiful markets and got to stroll through the picturesque streets of Oaxaca along the way.

Geraldines bubbling personality made us feel both welcome and engaged, meeting of all the different venders and trying just enough of everything to satisfy both curiosity and appetite. Highly recommended!”

“We had a great morning with the street food tour in Oaxaca with Geraldine. We loved every minute of it and her knowledge of Mexican food (and even the Dutch frikadel) and her interest in Mexican culture made this tour unique. My favourite was the tamales. It was so good that the day after we went back to the same place to consume it as our breakfast. To discover these hidden gems I highly recommend this tour at the beginning of your stay in Oaxaca.”

“What an experience!!! My first time in Oaxaca and I now feel like I'm a local. Geraldine made me feel like we had been friends for years and we're just on a stroll through the city stopping at timeless spots for food fully emersed in Mexican culture. From the devine tamal in the market place, every stop was an experience. I learnt more about Oaxacan food than I ever thought I could.”

“Increíble experiencia, nos encanto degustar diferentes platillos de la comida típica oaxaqueña. Nos dio las bases para saber y conocer sobre la cultura gastronómica de Oaxaca, así como también un poco de chismesito histórico. Lo que más me gustó fue el tamal y el chocolate con agua, sin duda lo volvería a repetir.”

“Absolutely loved the food tour! Everything we ate was so delicious - I'm noticing I've started salivating just thinking back to it. Geraldine is such a fantastic guide: equal parts knowledgeable and passionate. We would never have discovered these spots ourselves, and even if we did, would not have such a rich learning experience.
Would absolutely recommend to anyone visiting Oaxaca!”.

“I took Geraldine's food tour as part of a work trip and it was the perfect introduction to Oaxaca. The insight Geraldine provided into the businesses we visited and Oaxacan culture as a whole went so much deeper than what could be found on Google or a travel blog. Throughout the morning, it was clear that she spoke from a place of deep connection; it was also clear how much care and thoughtfulness she put into curating the tour, with each stop allowing us to experience different subsections of history, culture, and food. I'm still thinking about some of the items we tried and I would absolutely recommend this food tour to anyone visiting the city!”

“We had the best time on the street food tour! Not only was the food amazing, but Geraldine’s company and wealth of knowledge on Oaxacan culture and cuisine was unmatched. The pace of the food and walking around the city was perfect. We never felt overly stuffed but were very well fed. There was a great variety between the food, drinks and learning about Oaxacan history as well. I probably learned the most during this tour than any other tour we took that week!

I can’t rave enough about the food in Oaxaca. We enjoyed (and finished) everything we tried. We even went back to all of the places a second time because we enjoyed it so much. We also brought back some of the snacks we tried to share with friends at home (which they loved). The tamal de mole negro was one of the many highlights of our trip!

So glad we got to take this tour and can’t recommend it enough! Thanks so much Geraldine for showing us a great and delicious time around Oaxaca. Can’t wait to plan our next visit!”

“There's no better way to get to know a new city than with a food tour, and we did this on the first day we were in Oaxaca City. Not only did we get to try the best street food the city has to offer, but we also got a chance to try exotic (to us, anyway) local dishes like chapulines (grasshoppers) and tejate. Geraldine was super knowledgable and so much fun to talk to. Our three hour tour went by in a blink of an eye and we walked away very full, happy and with a much better understanding of Oaxacan food and culture. 10/10 would reccommend!”

Geraldine took us to the perfect places to eat: spots we’ve walked past and sadly missed before AND we tried all the right versions of the city’s best dishes She taught us about Oaxaca through food (the most delicious lesson I’ve ever had), plus she added in history, and art. I would take the tour again and again!
